Title : Modding an A4 laminator for laminating stickers
Date : 20/04/2025
Description : I modded a cheap A4 laminator so that I could properly laminate A4 sheets without the lamination getting stuck in the laminator, this allowed me to print my own high quality stickers at home.
Problem : Cheap laminators typically jam up and due to the closed housing it was only good for basic heat-applied lamination sheets.
Overview
I had a cheap A4 laminator lying around and I have on multiple occasions tried to use it to laminate items only for it to become jammed.
I had recently stopped a T-shirt printing business and no longer had the vinyl printer from that, I still wanted to be able to print some decent stickers.
I sawed off the top of the lid strategically to allow it to be used opened, I removed all heating elements from the laminator (hence it is now a cold press laminator only).
I also rolled some of the A4 lamination sheets onto the roller/s (can't remember if it was one or both), this was to thicken the gap up as there had become a noticeable gap between the rollers due to previous jams.
I ensured it could all be put back together in a way where unsafe electronics were not exposed, the lid was added with small hinges.
The modifications are simple and they allow you to carefully roll on adhesive lamination to your stickers cheaply, with minimal bubbles and it is very fun to use as well!
A simple change that makes a big difference!
